“Crystals are like people, it is the defects in them which tend to make them interesting!”

This saying of Colin Humphreys is particularly true in my research where I use some defects in diamond that behave like tiny magnets! We can manipulate them but things become really interesting if you bring other magnets close to them… This lets you measure the magnetic field!

I hope that one day, as a result of my research, we can take pictures of magnetic fields just as we can take pictures of our friends! Check out my blog if you want to learn more about it!

Inquiry-based Learning (IBL)

How can we use quantum systems to detect magnetic fields?

This is the question I try to answer with high school students through the activity I developed based on IBL: click here.
