In my research I focus on detection of microwave photons using the toolbox of superconducting quantum circuits.

Photodetection in the microwave domain is usually very hard due to the low photon energy at these frequencies, that prevent them from triggering macroscopic phenomena as photoionization.

I am developing a novel photodetection scheme based on a superconducting circuit which uses four wave mixing to directly and irreversibly trap the photons into a qubit excitation. This new scheme is shown to surpass state of the art performances in terms of dark counts, maintaining a competitive efficiency. This will allow to test new photo-counting based quantum information protocols in the microwave domain.
